What osteopathy actually involves
Manual osteopathy works from the idea that the area that hurts is not always the area causing the problem. Treatment is generally gentle and slow, using the hands to find and ease restriction in joints, muscle, fascia and connective tissue, and to improve how those structures move in relation to each other.
It is a good fit if you have had a problem for a long time, if you have tried more direct approaches without lasting change, or if you simply prefer a lighter touch than deep tissue work.
Two manual osteopathic practitioners work from Kirschner. One trained for five years at the Canadian School of Osteopathy with a focus on cranial and visceral techniques; the other is a registered kinesiologist who completed osteopathy in 2025 and combines the two. Sessions are 60 minutes with the first and 50 minutes with the second, and both are booked online by name.
Your first visit
The first osteopathy appointment is 60 minutes, including a full history and a movement assessment before treatment begins. You stay clothed. Wear something loose and comfortable that you can move in.

Osteopathy questions
Do I need a doctor referral to book?
No. In British Columbia you can book massage therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, kinesiology and acupuncture directly, with no referral. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse, so check your own plan if you intend to claim.
What is the difference between massage therapy, physiotherapy and osteopathy?
Massage therapy treats soft tissue directly to reduce pain and tension. Physiotherapy assesses how a joint moves and loads, then combines manual treatment with a progressive exercise plan. Manual osteopathy is gentler and whole-body, easing restriction across joints, fascia and connective tissue.
What should I expect at my first visit?
Arrive a few minutes early to complete a short health history. Your practitioner will ask about your symptoms and goals, assess the area, and then treat. You leave with a plan: what was found, what to do at home and whether a follow-up is worth booking.
What should I wear?
For massage you undress to your comfort level in private and stay covered by a sheet, with only the area being treated uncovered. For physiotherapy, osteopathy and kinesiology, wear or bring loose clothing you can move in.
We bill your insurer directly.
Less paperwork at the desk, with clear answers before treatment starts.
