What acupuncture actually involves
Acupuncture uses very fine, sterile, single-use needles placed at specific points to influence how the body regulates pain, tension and recovery. Most people describe the sensation as a dull heaviness or warmth rather than a sharp prick, and many find the session itself deeply restful.
Our acupuncturist is also a registered massage therapist, which means treatment can be informed by hands-on assessment rather than points alone.
Our acupuncturist holds an additional certification in orthopaedic acupuncture, which uses motor point needling alongside manual therapy for pain and injury from sport, work and daily life. Extended 90-minute sessions add front and back points, cupping and massage in one visit, and a Procell microchanneling with acupuncture treatment is available for skin.
Your first visit
A first acupuncture appointment is 60 minutes and includes a full intake before any needles are used. Needles are single-use and disposed of after your session. Eat something beforehand, since arriving on an empty stomach can leave you lightheaded.

Acupuncture questions
Do I need a doctor referral to book?
No. In British Columbia you can book massage therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, kinesiology and acupuncture directly, with no referral. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse, so check your own plan if you intend to claim.
What should I expect at my first visit?
Arrive a few minutes early to complete a short health history. Your practitioner will ask about your symptoms and goals, assess the area, and then treat. You leave with a plan: what was found, what to do at home and whether a follow-up is worth booking.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people find it far less sharp than expected. The needles are very fine, sterile and single-use. The usual sensation is a dull heaviness or warmth at the point rather than a prick, and many people find the session itself restful.
We bill your insurer directly.
Less paperwork at the desk, with clear answers before treatment starts.
